The role of Field Service Superintendent – (Energy) focuses on leading and executing complex mechanical field service activities at customer power plants. Responsibilities Lead and execute major mechanical overhauls, including full engine disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of 4‑stroke reciprocating engines and auxiliary equipment. Perform complex and advanced troubleshooting of mechanical and operational issues at customer power plants, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Act as Superintendent for complex service projects, leading on‑site execution and coordinating Service Engineers, Technicians, and other field resources. Serve as the main technical point of contact for customers during service execution, leading technical discussions and managing expectations. Prepare detailed Service Work Reports, including findings, analysis, conclusions, and technical recommendations. Provide internal and external progress updates on assigned work and follow up on work order status. Support New Build and Commissioning activities as required, ensuring smooth transition from installation to operation. Ensure all work is executed in compliance with Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) guidelines and customer site procedures. Proactively identify improvement opportunities and apply best practices to enhance service execution. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Core Qualifications A safety-first mindset and strong commitment to QHSE standards. BSc in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Extensive experience in power generation field service, particularly with reciprocating engines. Proven hands‑on experience with engine overhauls and major mechanical repairs. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in complex mechanical environments. A systematic way of working with good organizational and documentation skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers. Good command of English, both oral and written. Willingness to work overtime and travel extensively as required. Preferred Experience High integrity and accountability. Strong customer focus and ownership mindset. Proven leadership experience in the field (Superintendent, Senior Service Engineer, or similar). Experience working with Wärtsilä engines or similar large‑bore engine platforms. Ability to lead and influence individuals from different cultural and professional backgrounds. Fumes, odors, dust, and hazardous materials. Travel Requirements This position requires approximately 85% travel, including domestic and occasional international assignments to customer power plants. Eligibility & Location The role is permanent and preferred location is the United States (remote / home‑based). Successful applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Candidates for U.S. and Puerto Rico positions must be a U.S. citizen, national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee, or asylee with valid work authorization. Temporary visa holders (E, F‑1, H‑1, H‑1B, H‑2, L, B, J, or TN) are not eligible. Benefits Base pay range for CA/WA/NY/CO: $43/h – $63/h. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, standby/on‑call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligible for discretionary incentive plan upon offer, medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) plan, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, short‑ and long‑term disability (subject to applicable waiting periods). Paid time off accrues per pay period; new hires can expect 17 days per year. Twelve company‑paid holidays.
