Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. Screen and identify students with communication disorders; provide thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments. Consult with school principals to develop a schedule that complies with the Defined Minimum Program and the student's IEP for regular instructional periods. Assist and counsel teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech/language impairments. Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate. Plan and evaluate instruction to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps within assigned caseload. Communicate with classroom teachers, parents, and staff to implement continued instructional practices for daily activities. Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families as appropriate. Develop IEPs for students on caseload. Comply with applicable state and federal laws and procedural safeguards, and with standard operating procedures from the Office of Programs for the Handicapped. Maintain required student and district records. Respond to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from staff, parents, and agency personnel regarding therapy services. Perform various office duties as necessary, including preparing reports and correspondence. Operate equipment such as a computer, printer, hearing aid, audiometer, tape recorder, and other learning aids. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in speech/language pathology. One to two years of experience or training in speech therapy, or an equivalent combination. Certification meeting State and Southern Association standards.
