Salary USD $2500 to $3000 per month About the role Higher Options is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial records for a growing accounting firm. This role is open to candidates globally, with preference for professionals in regions like Latin America or the Philippines who can overlap with U.S. work hours. CPA certification is not required. What matters most is hands‑on experience, strong accounting fundamentals, and the ability to keep multiple client accounts accurate and organized. The right person will help ensure clean books, support leadership with clear reporting, and contribute to strong financial processes. Key responsibilities The bookkeeper will: Record and maintain financial transactions: Accurately enter daily, monthly, and yearly transactions in the accounting system, ensuring records stay current and compliant. Maintain detailed ledgers tracking income and expenses, including date, account, amount, and purpose. Prepare financial statements and reports: Generate balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other reports to provide insight into profitability, expenses, and trends. Reconcile accounts: Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and ensure records match statements. Manage accounts payable and receivable: Create and send invoices, track payments, process bills, and ensure vendors and employees are paid on time. Handle general ledger and fixed assets: Maintain the general ledger, categorize expenses correctly, track fixed assets, and prepare depreciation schedules. Support budgeting and forecasting: Provide insights that support budgeting and forecasting efforts to help leadership plan ahead. Assist with the month‑end and year‑end closing: Coordinate closing procedures, including accruals and adjusting entries, and prepare documents for the CPA during tax season. Maintain compliance and best practices: Follow U.S. GAAP standards, support tax filings, and assist with regulatory reporting as needed. Collaborate and communicate: Work closely with management, CPAs, and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and timely responses in a remote environment. Leverage technology: Use QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar tools, plus spreadsheets and cloud‑based systems to streamline workflows. Implement best practices and process improvements to make bookkeeping more efficient. Required qualifications Experience At least 3 years of professional bookkeeping experience (5 years preferred). Experience with U.S. accounting practices is required. Real estate asset depreciation experience is a plus. Education High school diploma required. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is a strong plus. Technical skills Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Books, or similar software. Strong Excel skills are required. Knowledge Familiarity with U.S. GAAP, tax procedures, and month‑end closing processes. Communication Organization and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple accounts, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records consistently.
