Attend marketing planning meetings to understand the “how” and “why” behind upcoming campaigns. Campaign Evaluation: Review campaign proposals and business cases prior to approval. Act as a “Critical Friend”—challenging assumptions, vetting ROI projections, and flagging potential risks or insufficiencies in the plan. Workflow Integration: Deeply understand the marketing workflow (from creative brief to vendor payment) to identify bottlenecks or areas for cost optimization. Financial Analysis & Reporting Expense Monitoring: Track marketing expenditure at a granular level (by campaign, channel, vendor, and category). Ensure data integrity and correct cost allocation. Forecasting & Budgeting: Lead the monthly rolling forecast for the marketing department. Work with budget holders to update spend projections based on actual campaign performance and changing strategies. Variance Analysis: Perform rigorous monthly variance analysis (Actuals vs. Budget vs. Forecast). Investigate discrepancies and provide clear explanations for over/under-spending. Executive Reporting: Synthesize complex financial data into concise Executive Summaries. Highlight key performance indicators (CAC, ROAS, ROI) and provide actionable recommendations to leadership. Process Improvement Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes. Enforce procurement policies and ensure marketing vendors are managed efficiently. Qualifications Data-Driven: Make decisions based on numbers, not gut feelings. Comfortable manipulating large datasets to find the truth behind the spend. Constructively Skeptical: Willing to challenge the status quo. Can say “no” or “prove it” when a campaign proposal lacks financial merit. Detail-Oriented: Spot errors in data and ensure accurate categorization. Strong Communicator: Explain complex financial variances to non-finance creative teams clearly and persuasively. Experience: 4-5 years in FP&A, Commercial Finance, or a Business Partnering role. Experience supporting Marketing or Sales teams highly preferred. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle). Familiarity with Data Visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI) is a plus.
