The Global Business Solution Center (GBSC) Tech team at Mastercard welcomes a Principal Data Engineer to shape big data solutions across our cloud and on-prem ecosystem. Demonstrated expertise in building scalable pipelines, designing data storage, and ensuring adherence to governance and security standards will be essential. Overview Drive key projects in data engineering, shaping reference architectures and staying current with evolving technologies such as Cloudera, Apache Ozone, AWS S3, Databricks, Azure Data Fabric, and more. Principal Data Engineer Role Serve as the GBSC’s SME on data engineering best practices and solution design. Design and build scalable data pipelines and storage schemas across Mastercard’s on‑prem and cloud ecosystem. Define and evangelise reference architectures, design patterns, and engineering standards for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption. Stay abreast of Mastercard’s data management ecosystem. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate data needs into scalable ingestion and storage solutions. Ensure solutions meet enterprise governance, security, privacy, and compliance standards by design. Mentor team members by sharing best practices and emerging trends. All About You Experience designing and building end‑to‑end data pipelines using ETL/ELT patterns. Hands‑on experience with data lake, lake house, and/or data warehouse architectures, including schema design and performance optimisation. Strong understanding of data modelling concepts (dimensional, normalised, and analytical). Expert level proficiency in Python, Java, or equivalent for building production‑grade data systems. Advanced SQL expertise, including performance tuning for very large datasets. Deep hands‑on experience with distributed processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark). Detail oriented with a passion for automation and emerging technologies. Excellent communication and leadership skills, comfortable leading global teams across time zones. Desirable Capabilities Background in financial services, payments, or other high‑scale domains. Strong communication skills with senior leaders and executives.
